Former New Jersey lottery winner faces drug charges

Most people would consider anyone who wins the New Jersey lottery lucky. If the same person wins again, they are likely considered extremely lucky. Unfortunately, the luck of a two-time Cash 5 lottery winner has seemed to run out -- or at least stalled -- after a traffic stop led to drug charges.

The 53-year-old man was reportedly stopped as a result of a traffic violation on a day in December. Police claim that as part of the stop, they discovered two weapons, including an assault weapon, and 350 prescription pills. It is unclear what prompted the traffic stop as well as what caused police to search the man's vehicle.

Following the alleged discoveries in the man's vehicle, law enforcement officials searched his apartment. As part of that search, police claim that they discovered prescription drugs, cocaine and marijuana. Reports indicate that the searches also yielded hollow point bullets and more weapons in a storage locker.

Despite the drug charges and other allegations against the man, the details leading to the search of the man's property are unclear. A representative for the man claims that the case revolves around "false assumptions." Most people in New Jersey who are facing criminal charges likely want an experienced criminal defense attorney on their side to help determine if any unlawful treatment occurred in the events leading up to and following an arrest. If the search is determined to be unlawful, for example, any evidence discovered as a result could be dismissed. With such a professional on their side, most people facing criminal charges feel more prepared to adequately respond to the charges against them.
