New Jersey football player charged with attempted murder

For many college students, the end of a romantic relationship may be a devastating time. However, with time, most people are able to recover with relatively little long-term consequences. Despite this, officials say that a football player at a New Jersey university has recently been arrested on several charges, including attempted murder.

The 22-year-old's arrest occurred on a day in late October. Reports claim that he intended to kill two family members of his ex-girlfriend. He allegedly told several people of his plans and even asked others to help him by driving a getaway car. One person is said to have recorded his plans.

When arrested, police say that they discovered gloves, a mask and crushed Tylenol in his vehicle; police believe that he intended to use these items as part of his murder plot. Reports indicate that he had also sought out the addresses of the targets of his alleged plans. He is now accused of conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder. He has since been dismissed from the Rutgers football team.

People who are in emotional distress will often make claims with which they never intend to follow through. Even when people make threats of violence, they are often the product of an emotional moment and will never be acted on. Unfortunately, the allegations of attempted murder are serious and will likely carry serious consequences if the New Jersey football player is convicted. As such, he might benefit from having an experienced criminal defense attorney on his side.
