Traffic violations lead to increased ticketing in New Jersey town

At first, the mayor and local police tried to play the nice guy role. Continued traffic violations by repeat offenders, and increased auto and pedestrian traffic in one local New Jersey town have now led to an updated policy. Those who may not have gotten tickets before could be facing tickets now if caught speeding in Little Silver, New Jersey.

Historically, police officers were advised to issue warnings for first-time traffic law offenders. For a bustling town with four schools, a train station and a busy downtown area, the danger for drivers and pedestrians was increased. Unfortunately, drivers did not heed the warnings, and the town saw more accidents than it wanted. In the support of public safety, the mayor has now rescinded the warning policy.

He says that they were seeing more violations for cell phone use and speeding, arguably the two most common traffic violations. Individuals caught breaking these laws will now face fines and possible criminal penalties. The borough has also made a number of additional traffic improvements such as crosswalks, stop signs, lighted pedestrian crossings and more in an effort to protect the public safety.

An individual driving in this New Jersey town should be careful to heed all traffic laws or face the penalties. Of course, it is possible to be unfairly charged with traffic violations by an overzealous official. A person facing criminal or civil charges related to driving may wish to defend themselves against the allegations. An experienced criminal defense attorney could potentially be a useful tool in building a strong defense against alleged crimes.
