2 New Jersey residents face drug charges

Two individuals were going about their day when it suddenly took an unexpected turn. Authorities allegedly observed a driver speeding on New Jersey Route 15 and conducted a traffic stop. The events of that traffic stop led to traffic and drug charges for the pair.

At around 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, police officials observed the female driver's car allegedly traveling 75 miles per hour in a 55-miles-per-hour zone. This led the officer to stop the car. Once stopped, the officer claimed to observe the odor of burnt marijuana inside the vehicle. Reportedly, the 22-year-old female driver admitted that some friends has smoked in the vehicle earlier but that there were no drugs in the car.

Police then conducted a search of the vehicle and located a glass marijuana pipe along with two open containers of vodka. The 24-year-old male passenger reportedly took ownership of the pipe and was then placed under arrest. The driver was charged with speeding, failure to produce an insurance card and possession of open alcohol containers in a motor vehicle.

After being booked on the traffic and drug charges, the pair were advised of their pending court appearances and released. The prosecutors will now pick up the case and must bear the burden of proof for the charges levied against the two. Both parties, like any person given criminal charges in New Jersey, will remain innocent until proved guilty. Many others facing similar issues have chosen to defend themselves against criminal charges with the support of a knowledgeable defense attorney who will help build a strong case.
