New Jersey man accused of violent crime

A tragic incident resulting in the death of a woman and her dog has led to charges for one man. The New Jersey resident is accused of murder and related charges. Some details of the violent crime accusations have been released to the press.

Police responded to the residence early in the morning of Aug. 13. Authorities made a forced entry into the home after receiving a call that a gunshot was heard in the neighborhood. When the police arrived on scene, they found the deceased woman. A dog was found at the scene, also deceased.

Police arrested the woman's boyfriend on murder and weapons charges. The weapons charges include unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of one for an unlawful purpose. The man was also charged with cruelty to animals due to the allegation that he killed the dog in cold blood. Although the man does not have a criminal record in New Jersey, the charge of certain persons not to have weapons indicates that he may have a criminal charge in another state or a mental health diagnosis that prevents him from owning weapons.

New Jersey residents may be shocked by the appearance of this seemingly cold and deadly crime. It is important to note, however, that persons charged with violent crime in this state are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Accused persons have the right to an attorney who can aid them in forming a criminal defense. A strong defense will encourage the court to look at all the facts of the case before deciding whether a person is guilty or not guilty of a crime.
