Foorball player charged with assaulting fiancée in New Jersey

According to police reports, a running back for the Baltimore Ravens was arrested after an alleged physical assault involving his fiancée in Atlantic City, New Jersey. An assault complaint was signed against each party by responding officers.

The incident was captured on surveillance videos at the Revel Casino. Reportedly, after a heated argument, both parties struck the other with their hands. Neither person requested medical treatment.

When police respond to cases of domestic violence, the incidents follow state law and court rules pursuant to the procedures outlined in the Domestic Violence Procedure Manual. It is up to the discretion of the responding officer to arrest the person or to sign a criminal complaint. He is permitted to do both in acts of suspected domestic violence.

After the couple was taken to the Atlantic City Police Department, they were later released with a summons to appear in a subsequent court date.

The 27-year-old running back graduated from Rutgers and was drafted by the Ravens in the second round of the 2008 draft. The team released a statement acknowledging the incident and were aware the couple had been released to go home together.

A legal advisor for the athlete issued a statement indicating he would be reviewing the evidence, expecting it to result in a misunderstanding and a minor incident.

The running back is a three-time Pro Bowler with the Ravens, leading his team to a Super Bowl title in 2013. His next season was marked with struggle.

Celebrities and professional athletes are people. They have problems and issues just like the average person, and these issues may involve arguments. While differences of opinion are common, assault and battery charges can lead to serious consequences. In extreme cases like this one, there are many factors to consider. If you have been arrested or charged with domestic violence or other criminal offense, you should not take it lightly. It is in your best interest to seek the best quality of advice possible to protect your rights.
