Checkpoints more common on New Jersey roadways

Police checkpoints for drunk driving frequently take place after local shows in areas when various venues empty their seats. This has been precipitated by a mad rush after the end of a concert at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel. Jersey state troopers have been arranging for the checkpoints primarily for vehicles leaving the events at the PNC Bank Arts Center.

The roadside stoppages have been set up to begin at 8 p.m., and officials will initiate random stoppage of vehicles passing through the Holmdel Garden State Parkway going south. Officers will scrutinize motorists and cars that exhibit distracted or erratic drivers.

New Jersey state checkpoints are conducted to monitor the safety of the road. They especially watch for behavior indicating the driver may be headed for dangerous accidents. Data from police records indicate 298 fatalities have occurred so far this year, showing an increase from the year before. The greater part of these included passengers, pedestrians, and bicyclists.

Local officials feel the checkpoints will help reduce the number of accidents, as well as send the message that designated drivers should be be available, as well as promoting public transportation to get home after an event.

Checkpoints pulled over just under 200 vehicles at a DWI stop after a recent concert. Out of 193 motorists operating a vehicle, not one person was arrested on a DUI.

Drunk driving is a serious offense in New Jersey. If you are facing some DUI charges, you have the advantage of choosing a person who understands the life-changing consequences of the law. He or she can help you to navigate through the court system if you face charges that can be costly, oblige you to serve jail time, or pay high penalties.
