New Jersey community leader killed by drunk driver

A tragic accident on New Jersey Route 1 has claimed the life of a beloved New Jersey community leader. The 67-year old Princeton resident was traveling in his 2013 Lexus on Route 1 near Harrison Street. His wife was a passenger in the vehicle. His car smashed into the back end of a 2011 BMW driven by a man, also a resident of Princeton. The accident was caused by the impact of 2010 Mack Truck going northbound on Route 1. The operator of the truck rear-ended the decedent's car, which was then pushed into the BMW.

The injured community leader was taken to the hospital, where he later died from the serious injuries he suffered in the crash. His wife, also 67, is still in the hospital in serious condition.

The driver of the Mack Truck is being held on $300,000 bail in the Mercer County Detention Center. The charges filed against him include driving under the influence of alcohol, aggravated assault, reckless driving, failing to stop at a red light and death by auto.

The driver of the BMW was also transported to the hospital, where he was treated and released. The driver of the Mack Truck causing the accident was not injured in the incident.

The decedent was the founder of the Battle Against Hunger Bike Ride. The activity has raised almost three-quarters of a million dollars for charitable groups that feed the hungry in the state of New Jersey. The non-denominational bike ride is supported by several groups, including soup kitchens, missions, ministries and crisis centers.

Criminal defense in New Jersey may be complicated and multi-layered. If you have been charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, it is crucial to get help with your case immediately. Each situation is different and requires special consideration and investigation by someone well-versed in criminal defense who can help you to present your case to the courts. Many factors need to be considered, especially with a first-time offender. Commercial drivers must be especially aware of potential problems arising from a DWI. These can affect your commercial license and your future.
