Former New Jersey pharmacist accused of making illegal drugs

A 33-year-old former New Jersey pharmacist is being held without bail after allegations surfaced that he had been manufacturing drugs. The man is facing several drug charges in connection with the case. He stands accused of attempting to produce the popular party drug methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA) in addition to charges for possession of the materials needed to make the drug. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

Official reports show that the man purchased a variety of chemical materials from an online retailer with the intent to create the illegal drug. Those materials included chemical substrates, along with gel caps, flasks and mechanical equipment. The man's home was searched and he was arrested on Nov. 14. Reports indicate that further search warrants may be executed throughout New Jersey and neighboring states in connection with the alleged drug manufacturing. Officials are remaining tight-lipped about the remainder of the investigation, which appears to be ongoing.

In this case, the man was held without bail because a judge deemed him too dangerous to release. Officials thought he might not report for his court date if he was allowed to go free. If convicted of the charges he faces, he could spend two decades in prison and be required to pay a $1 million fine.

The defendant in this situation qualified to receive the services of a public defender; however, other defendants may decide to utilize the services of a different criminal defense lawyer. A qualified attorney is an invaluable resource during a drug crimes case, as he or she can provide accurate information to help the defendant make the best decisions about the case. Legal defendants deserve a fair trial, no matter the charges they are facing in state or federal court.
